Why has the magical girl become a genre for girls or for men?
What would a magical girl be like from a truly female perspective?
Magical Woman reverses the elements that divide male-oriented and female-oriented genres, creating a new magical girl image made from a female perspective. Magical girls become role models for girls, produce toys, and lead girl culture, while also becoming sexual fantasies for adult men. If most things that lead girl culture are made under patriarchy, then are women’s desires also made? If a woman chooses male-oriented content instead of female-oriented content, can she gain subjectivity?
Starting from these questions, Magical Woman reverses the colors of the two types of weapons and effects that appear in genre dichotomies regardless of the character’s gender, making all elements look as if they were made for women. This makes people perceive sharp and explosive images and dark colors as also belonging to women. Before finding true female desire, what must be done is to explore the female perspective.
