videoIn the minds of socialized people, the concept of “gendering” exists—sometimes abstractly, sometimes explicitly—shaping memes, food, clothing, walking styles, hobbies, colors, and places. Girl’s Rules distorts and reassembles these gendered elements of daily life, creating countless new rules as satire. The work begins with a gender reveal party; the resulting “girl” in the video seems to follow, yet also defy, the socialized rules of women. This ambiguity allows her to escape patriarchal censorship. Supporting her, the character “Bibi” adds further confusion, persistently referencing the gendered aspects embedded in our daily lives and minds.
